<aside> ❗ Remember these are observations not confirmed symptoms, the goal is to capture potential behaviours to create a richer picture of someones life.

Generally, 90% of our behaviours happen outside of any medical professionals observations. This helps bridge the gap through close observation either by the person being diagnosed or. a close partner/familiy member.

You may want to create this together or have multiple versions in use with yourself and/or for close family or friends.

Writing Observations.

Records should be kept with notes on scenarios, behaviours, triggers and emotions.

Avoid assigning purpose or a reason to recorded behaviours.

Keep notes passive and factual unless interpretation of the behaviour has been providers by the person exhibiting the behaviour.

This makes the notes less biased and easy for interpretation and discussion by trained medical professionals.

There are several catagories to help discuss and expand an observation:

  1. Behaviour or Observation: State the observation or behaviour, be as detailed as you can about what happened and how.
  2. Trigger or Context: Think or discuss what context or triggers preceded a behaviour. Was their an event, recent interaction, change in the environment, tone or actions.
  3. Life Stages: This is the stage that an observation relates to. Often some behaviours or past observations might prompt exploration on whether they existed when a person was younger or a behaviour that no longer occurs but was present in other stages of life.
  4. DSM-5 Autism Spectrum Disorder (299.00) diagnostic criteria: What criteria from the DSM-5 does this observation most closely align with.
  5. DSM-5 Support Level: What support level do you think would be needed to support healthily overcoming, calming or dealing with a behaviour.
  6. ICD-11 Autism Spectrum Disorder (6A02) diagnostic criteria: What criteria best aligns with the ICD-11 criteria.
  7. ICD-11 Sub Criteria: What sub-criteria best aligns with the ICD-11 criteria.
